Introduction to Forensics
Join us as we kick off our year-long true crime series on June 7 at 6 p.m! Running from June 2022 through June 2023, this monthly program will teach you all about different aspects of true crime and forensics. Hands-on demonstrations and activities, a true crime author visit, and real life examples and stories, TCU will have it all throughout the year. Anyone 18+ is welcome to attend this rigorous learning experience. Warning: content discussed in these programs may be graphic in nature and disturbing to some. The goal of this program is to provide those attending with information that will help them understand forensic science in criminal investigations, while also adding elements of true crime. Hannah Moody, Adult Services Librarian, and Portland’s own Mike Medler will be collaborating for this one of a kind experience. Mike Medler is a 1970 graduate of Portland High School. He is a graduate of the Indiana State Police Academy and the FBI National Academy. After retiring from ISP in 2005, he worked as the Director of the Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency until he retired in February of 2018. He has served as adjunct faculty at IU-Kokomo, IUPUI, and University of Indianapolis in both Criminal Justice and Forensic Science degree programs. He has been a crime scene investigator, testified as an expert in fingerprints and blood stain analysis, and is a retired member of the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors. Space is limited, so call or visit the library to register for this event.
