Story Times!

Story Times with Miss Mary

Wednesdays at 11:30 am

Check the calendar to confirm current dates.

For preschool-aged children (and younger siblings), this is a structured reading time where several books on the same theme are shared, then a craft is completed.  An adult must stay with whatever children they bring.  Story Times are held in the Story Corner on the east side of the Children's area unless otherwise indicated at the library entrance.

Times and dates are posted at the library each month, as well as being available in the local newspaper, The Commercial Review, and broadcast on the local radio station, WPGW - Portland (100.9 FM, 1400 AM).

Mother Goose and Me!

A favorite with the younger crowd, Mother Goose will visit the library most Friday mornings at 10:00 am (check the calendar for current dates).  Toddlers and preschoolers with their caregivers are welcome.

Q.  How is Mother Goose different from Story Time?
A.  Story Time leaders read stories, share some rhymes, and usually provide a craft.  At Mother Goose & Me, the emphasis is more on music, rhymes and movement.

Check the calendar to confirm current dates for Mother Goose.

School Bus Safety Program - Don't Miss the Bus!  Be Ready to Ride

An annual school bus ride and safety information is offered at the end of summer to Jay County's incoming kindergarten and 1st grade students. Children ride a real school bus from JCPL to Bloomfield Elementary. The bus driver provides a review of school bus safety rules. At the school building, the kindergarten teacher will welcome the children to her classroom where they are treated to some kindergarten fun, a story or two, and a chance to play on the playground equipment.  Come share and learn with your child.  The bus leaves the library at 10:00 a.m. and returns at noon.

2014 "Ready to Ride"
Monday, August 4th 10:00 am to noon

Call (260-726-7890) or stop by the library (315 N. Ship St., Portland) to register your kindergartener or first grader. Riders must be accompanied by an adult. Older and younger siblings may not ride the school bus. The program is limited to 50 bus riders.

Don't forget your camera to capture this special moment with your child!
