While the library is in turmoil, find some outside activities you can do to pass the time. Here is a list to get you started. A book is listed below each activity. Read it with someone to relive your experiences!
Once the library is up and running again, we’re hoping to make a few changes in the children’s area. To spice it up a little, we’re looking for stuffed animals of all sizes—big, little, and giant!
If you’ve been wondering how to find a new home for your gently-used stuffed animal that doesn’t cuddle in bed with you anymore, we’ll be glad to put it to use!
Drop them off anytime during our regular hours. Then come visit them often! They’ll miss you, of course, but they’ll love making new friends and making lots of kids smile!
NEW @ your library: Grab Bags!
A “Grab Bag” is a collection of 10 books based on a theme for a different age groups pre-packed in a plastic drawstring book bag. It’s a surprise what you might find inside!
Browse the collections that we have available now and choose a bag, or request a subject that might interest you and in 3 days, we’ll have it ready to go!
When you check out the grab bag, the bag is yours to keep! Come back often and fill it up.
KINDERGARTEN PREP SCHOOL
KiPS! THIS SUMMER
Kindergarten Prep School is a partnership between Jay County Public Library and Jay Schools. It is a program designed to provide academic and social skills over the summer to children who will be entering kindergarten in the fall.
Any child who is eligible for kindergarten in the Jay Schools for the 2014-2015 school year may register for the program.
The program is free of charge and will last for 8 weeks over the summer. It is held EVERY Tuesday from June 17th through August 5th from 9 a.m. to noon.
Transportation may be provided by the Jay Schools or parents can drop children off at the library.
Children spend time in small groups learning such skills as how to stand in line, how to raise their hands to ask questions, how to participate in group activities, how to walk from one area to another. They also practice academics in math, reading, art, gym, small motor skills, music, and writing.
To register a child for KiPS, fill out the form received at Kindergarten Round-up or pick one up at the library and return it ASAP. Deadline to register is May 30.
Tuesdays will be very active times in the children’s area at the library this summer!
