printable version (pdf)

Kindergarten Prep School (KiPS)

Kindergarten Prep School is a partnership between JayCPL and Jay Schools. It is a program designed to provide academic and social skills over the summer to children who will be entering kindergarten in the fall.

Any child who is eligible for kindergarten in the Jay Schools for the 2015-2016 school year may register for the program. The program is free of charge and will be held EVERY Tuesday from from 9 a.m. to noon. Transportation may be provided by the Jay Schools or parents can drop children off at the library.

Children spend time in small groups learning such skills as how to stand in line, raise their hands to ask questions, participate in group activities, and walk from one area to another. They also practice academics in math, reading, art, gym, small motor skills, music, and writing.

To register a child for KiPS, fill out the form received at Kindergarten Round-up or pick one up at the library. Deadline to register is May 15.

NEW Programs at JCPL
(But don’t forget about the old ones! See the calendar or print one for a complete list.)

FAMILY FUN is an indoor playgroup for parents home with their children.
Refreshments and toys, puzzles, books, and music are provided. Come and join the conversation!

EXPLORE @ JCPL is a learning program for elementary-age children.
Two sessions will be held during the month to explore a topic and provide hands-on experience.
Sign up for April’s programs now! Limit of 15 kids per session; each session is different.

And though STORY TIME isn’t new, two time offerings are: Wednesdays at 4:45 p.m. and Thursdays at 5:00 p.m.

10-year-old Imari wrote a book awhile ago, and it has recently been released.

Come to the library on Saturday, April 11th between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to meet her!

Her book, Be Calm, Be Brave, Don’t Be Afraid, is about Ally and Max, a sister and brother adventure team that helps towns in distress. Will Ally and Max be able to save the town under siege? Or will they become the town’s next victims?

Check out her Facebook page or blog and come visit her at the library.

Imari’s mother Cara Shreeve Douthit is from Portland, and her grandmother Debbie Shreeve still lives here in Jay County.
